Informed Protein
Informed Protein is a UK-run scheme. It checks the protein claim on a product label. It also screens for banned substances. But the main job is to confirm the protein claim is true.
Who runs it
LGC runs Informed Protein. LGC also runs Informed Sport, Informed Choice, and Informed Ingredients. The tests are done in an LGC lab. The lab is accredited to ISO 17025.
How it relates to Sport and Choice
Sport and Choice both check for banned substances. Protein checks if the claim is true. All three screen for banned substances. But they answer different questions.
- Informed Sport / Choice — “Has this been tested for banned substances?”
- Informed Protein — “Does this product really hold the protein it claims?” Wrong protein numbers are a known problem in the protein market.
How to verify
Look for the Informed Protein logo on the bottle. Then check the brand or product on the LGC site at protein.wetestyoutrust.com.
What it doesn't cover
Informed Protein is just for protein products. It is not a broad quality check. It does not cover vitamins. It does not cover minerals. And it does not cover other sports supplements.
Best for
Buying whey or plant protein. You want proof that the protein in the tub matches the label.
