Informed Protein

Informed Protein is a UK-run programme that verifies the protein content claim on a product's label. It also includes banned-substance screening, but the headline test is whether the protein claim is accurate.

Who runs it

Informed Protein is operated by LGC, the same organisation behind Informed Sport, Informed Choice, and Informed Ingredients. Tests are performed in LGC's ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.

How it relates to Sport and Choice

Sport and Choice are both about banned-substance assurance; Protein is about claim accuracy. The three programmes overlap in banned-substance screening but answer different questions:

  • Informed Sport / Choice — “Has this been tested for banned substances?”
  • Informed Protein — “Does this product actually contain the protein it claims to?” Mislabelled protein content is a documented problem in the protein supplement market.

How to verify

Look for the Informed Protein logo on the bottle, then verify the brand or product on the official LGC database at protein.wetestyoutrust.com.

What it doesn't cover

Informed Protein is targeted at the protein category. It is not a general-purpose supplement quality scheme — vitamins, minerals, and non-protein sports supplements are not in scope.

Best for

Buying whey or plant protein and wanting independent confirmation that the protein content matches the label claim.
