Informed Choice
Informed Choice is a UK-run quality assurance programme that tests finished sports nutrition products for substances banned in competitive sport. It uses monthly blind sampling rather than per-batch testing — a less strict cadence than Informed Sport.
Who runs it
Informed Choice is operated by LGC, an international science organisation also responsible for Informed Sport, Informed Protein, and Informed Ingredients. Testing is done in LGC's own ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
Informed Choice vs Informed Sport
The two programmes share the same banned-substance scope but differ in how often products are tested:
- Informed Sport — every batch tested. The relevant tier for athletes competing in a tested sport. Read about Informed Sport →
- Informed Choice — monthly sample testing. A subset of products is tested each month rather than every production batch. Useful as a routine quality signal but not a substitute for per-batch testing if you compete.
How to verify
Look for the Informed Choice logo on the bottle, then verify the brand or product on the official LGC database at choice.wetestyoutrust.com.
What it doesn't cover
Informed Choice does not test every batch, so it is not a substitute for Informed Sport in tested-sport contexts. It does not test potency, identity, or contaminants beyond the banned-substance scope.
Best for
Recreational and amateur athletes wanting independent banned-substance assurance without the higher bar of per-batch Informed Sport.
